Overview
Road traffic noise and vibration are regulated under the Basic Environment Act, the Noise Regulation Act, and the Vibration Regulation Act. Local governments implement measures to ensure compliance with these regulations.
The Minister of the Environment establishes permissible limits for vehicle noise and vibration generated under specified operating conditions. When the surrounding living environment is deemed to be significantly affected, local governments may request the Prefectural Public Safety Commission to implement traffic control measures or other appropriate actions.
In addition, when the construction of a new facility or other development is expected to affect road traffic noise or vibration, it may be necessary to compare conditions before and after the project, predict future impacts, and submit the results to the relevant local authority.
Applications
We conduct road traffic noise and vibration measurements for environmental assessments, environmental impact studies on living environments, and other environmental investigations. These surveys are also performed as part of environmental monitoring programs conducted by local governments.

Noise and vibration are recorded automatically using sound level meters and vibration meters for unattended measurement.

The measured data is analyzed using computer software.
Based on field records, only the relevant data is selected for evaluation.

We also measure the dominant frequency of ground vibration to evaluate how vibrations generated by vehicle traffic propagate through the ground.

Important Notes
Since measurements are conducted on sidewalks or along roadsides, applications for road use permits and road occupancy permits may be required. To ensure safe and appropriate measurement conditions, we determine the optimal measurement locations during the preliminary site inspection.
