Overview
Dioxins are a collective term for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and coplanar polychlorinated biphenyls (Co-PCBs). These compounds are unintentionally generated, are highly toxic, and require appropriate management and emission reduction. Because environmental dioxins are present only in trace amounts, highly advanced analytical techniques and strict quality control are essential.
In Japan, the Act on Special Measures Concerning Countermeasures against Dioxins establishes environmental standards, emission standards, and waste management requirements. In addition, the Industrial Safety and Health Regulations require dioxin measurements in workplace environments.
Applications
Environmental Monitoring
Continuous monitoring of environmental dioxin contamination is required, as well as measurement of emissions from designated facilities and verification of compliance with regulatory standards established by local ordinances.
Waste Treatment
Fly ash, bottom ash, sludge, and other wastes generated from waste incineration facilities must meet the Ministry of the Environment's dioxin standards before disposal or recycling.
Demolition of Incineration Facilities
Dioxin measurements may be required when dismantling incinerators.
Work Environment Monitoring
Investigations specified in the Guidelines for the Prevention of Dioxin Exposure are required for work performed inside waste incineration facilities.

- Step 1
- Planning and Sampling
Based on your request, we determine appropriate sampling locations and coordinate the sampling schedule. We also maintain strict quality control over all sampling equipment.
- Step 2
- Sample Preparation
Dioxins are extracted from the collected samples. The extracts are then purified to remove interfering substances. To minimize contamination, we use separate laboratories and equipment depending on the sample matrix.
- Step 3
- Measurement and Data Analysis
Measurements are performed using high-resolution gas chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS). Multiple capillary columns are used in combination to separate and quantify dioxins.
